here is one from the archives: My Favorite Books

You won’t find my favorite books
in bookstores. They only live
in unweeded libraries
on dusty shelves
and maybe in old,
long abandoned museums,
not the glitzy new ones
where the elite meet for lunch,
and the people stand in line
for a ticket and a random chance
to see celebrities.

And here it is translated into Portuguese:

Author: Raymond Maxwell Librarian, archivist, retired foreign service officer and Navy veteran.

  1. There’s nothing quite like the smell of a second-hand bookshop. There’s something magical about leafing through a book with dog-eared pages and loose binding. I got my first copy of The Souls of Black Folk in a market in Accra. That was really special as it was instrumental in defining my post-graduate studies.
